Wing Gundam ~ Endless Waltz

Kit Review

Straight build

Alongside the MG Wing Gundam series releases, the MG Wing Gundam ~ Endless Waltz version has also been released. As you can see, this kit is completely identical to the Wing Gundam Ver.Ka that came out 7 years ago — it's a straight-up color variant with only the molded colors changed.

Besides the molded color being changed to the bold blue-white-yellow that's characteristic of Gundam, the Ver.Ka title has been dropped, which brings the amount of decals and seals down to a more standard level — making the build a bit easier. On top of that, 2 parts that weren't in the Ver.Ka have been added: dedicated parts for connecting to the 1/100 Action Base. Since the Action Base came out after the Wing Ver.Ka, it seems they had no choice but to throw in these separate joint parts with this kit. Or maybe they felt bad about it being just a color variant and tossed them in as a little bonus.

The old Wing Ver.Ka was quite a groundbreaking masterpiece in terms of style and quality back in its day, and even looking at it 7 years later, it still holds up surprisingly well. True to the Ver.Ka name, the proportions are excellent, and the detail and joint strength are both really solid. The articulation was pretty impressive at the time, but looking at it now, the lack of a hip joint gimmick does make the legs feel a bit limited in terms of dynamic posing.

Being a kit born as a Ver.Ka, the design and proportions are still top-notch — and while it carries those big wings, you can actually use the wings themselves as a kind of stand, so keeping it upright isn't really an issue. That said, when you try to put it in aerial action poses, the wing locking mechanism does feel a little less tight than you'd want, which is a bit of a shame.

Considering how much the average kit quality has improved lately, there are some areas like the frame and hip joints that leave a little to be desired — but even so, this is still a kit that's genuinely fun to build even now, and its reputation is well-earned. It's a solid choice for anyone who wants to revisit the Wing Ver.Ka with a fresh look, and if you've never built the Wing Ver.Ka before, this is a clean, easy-to-recommend kit. Especially if you're not a fan of the heavy decaling that comes with Ver.Ka kits, the EW version Wing Gundam in crisp original Gundam colors is even more highly recommended :-)
