MG AGE-1

Gundam AGE-1 Titus

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Decals

Hot on the heels of the AGE-1 Normal, the Titus got an MG release as well. True to the lore, the torso and head share the same form as the Normal, but the arms and legs look completely different, making this a variation kit where about 70% of the runners are new parts.

Since the arms and legs are much chunkier than the Normal, the arm and leg frames have been redesigned into a new form, and the chunky frame shots have a really unique feel to them. That said, as you can see in the photos, while the frame has impressive volume, the detail feels pretty plain, which is a bit of a letdown. Just like the Normal, there's zero detail on the inside of the armor panels either... Overall it feels like detail just wasn't a priority here.

Despite the chunky build, the articulation is actually pretty good — though even with the hip joint gimmick, the range of upward thigh movement is still somewhat limited. Overall joint strength is more than adequate, but when actually trying to strike action poses, the forearms are just too heavy to hold the arms out horizontally;; So in my case I wedged some leftover parts into the armpits to hold them in place ^^; On the flip side, the ankle articulation is surprisingly decent, so you can pull off some pretty dynamic poses while keeping it standing on the ground.

It was well done at the HG level too, but the beam parts on the shoulders, knees, and forearms are nicely reproduced here in MG form as well. And being an MG, the shoulder extension gimmick is pulled off more convincingly, and they've also added detail to the inside of the shoulders.

Overall the quality feel is similar to the MG AGE-1 Normal, but unlike the Normal the armor structure isn't particularly unique — it's pretty much the same as your typical MG, so it's not as fresh. That said, it's somehow easier and simpler to build than the Normal, and the build feel is really satisfying, so it's quite enjoyable to put together ^^

Even if you're not particularly into the source anime, if you like the style it's a really worthwhile kit to build — and at ¥3500 the value for money feels excellent. If you're tired of the same old classic suits, this is worth picking up as a cure for that burnout... and especially if you're a fan of chunky designs, this one comes highly recommended :-)
