Kit Review

Just one year after the release of the MG Nu Gundam Ver.Ka — one of Bandai's greatest masterpieces — the Titanium Finish version has finally arrived. Since most major MG kits eventually get a Titanium Finish release, plenty of people have been waiting for this one, and here it is at last. ^^
The coating quality is on par with previous Titanium Finish releases — the smooth, marble-like white coating really makes it feel like something genuinely expensive... (and at ¥16,000, it literally is OTL). On top of that, the white armor is coated in two tones — a pure white and a slightly grayish white — which gives it an even more striking look somehow. The darker blue parts feel a little less impactful coating-wise, probably due to the deeper base color, but the surface texture is similar enough to the white sections that it doesn't feel out of place.
Anyway, the Titanium Finish process is such a complex and precise coating method that the ¥16,000 price tag — basically PG territory — is a bit of a gut punch. But you definitely get what you pay for in terms of that premium coating feel, and it's a genuinely impressive kit. On top of that, as is typical with plated kits, the joint strength tightens up a bit, so overall stability is actually better than the standard release.
One thing to note — unlike the First and Unicorn Titanium Finish kits which had relatively smooth surfaces, the Nu Gundam Ver.Ka has pretty complex molding, so there are quite a few spots where the coating liquid looks like it's run slightly along the various recesses. This actually makes the panel lines pop even on a straight build, which is a nice bonus, but depending on your perspective it could also look a little messy — so I'd recommend taking a good look at the photos and deciding for yourself whether that's your thing or not.
Building the Nu Gundam Ver.Ka again after a year really reminded me all over again — this kit truly sits at the pinnacle of Bandai's Gunpla engineering. The sheer number of parts, the intricate psycho-frame gimmick, the precise armor separation and sense of depth... The fin funnel attachment issues and a few other minor gripes are still there, but it's a fantastic kit where you can really feel the craftsman's spirit of the designer. And now with the ultimate titanium coating on top of all that — if you can get past the price, this is absolutely a kit worth adding to your collection. :-)
