Kit Review
Straight build + Panel lining + Decals
Flashy action poses with the Oni Shield thrown in
Great stability means any pose comes out looking great ^^

Following the Build Strike Gundam, the Sengoku Astray Gundam from Build Fighters has now been released as an MG. It's a faster MG rollout than expected — I can't help but think they want to cash in while the hype is still hot. Honestly, releasing a kit while the anime is still airing is the best way to ride the wave of popularity, and looking back at SEED and 00, the MG releases did feel a bit late.
The base body is naturally built on the existing MG Astray Red Frame, with a new head, shoulders, leg armor, feet, and weapons added on top. Since the original was already an exceptional kit in terms of articulation, joints, and detail, the MG Sengoku Astray Gundam comes out looking very clean and polished as well.
One of the criticisms of the original MG Astray was that its proportions were too slender — people were divided on that. The Sengoku Astray Gundam, however, gains bulky armor all over, giving it a much more filled-out look. If anything, it feels more balanced overall than the Astray Red Frame Kai, which had that top-heavy, spindly-legged vibe. The feet have also been changed to a wider, duck-foot style, improving ground contact and making standing poses much easier to pull off.
The newly added Oni Shield shows off some seriously impressive detail and depth, as you'd expect from an MG — but what really stands out is how well it connects to the hand. As you can see in the review photos above, it locks in rock-solid even at angles where you'd never expect it to hold, which honestly left me a little impressed. The shield handle has a hole that mates with the palm peg, and the forearm joint strength is solid too, so it stays put in just about any pose.
The parts that let you extend the massive shoulder armor out like a giant hand are also excellent in terms of detail and volume, and each joint holds its position well enough to pull off pretty much any pose. The two samurai swords, however, are the same ones from the original MG Astray — nothing special there — and they do feel a little loose when resting on the shoulders, which is a minor disappointment.
The biggest weakness of this kit is its somewhat spin-off-ish design and relatively thin backstory compared to mainline Gundam, and that's probably going to be the deciding factor for a lot of people. Set that aside, though, and while it doesn't quite hit the same emotional high as the original MG Astray, it's a high-quality kit with almost nothing to fault in terms of build quality. As you can see from the score breakdown below, not a single category drops below five stars (granted, a lot of that is thanks to the excellent base kit). In some ways it even feels like an improvement over the original.
Either way, if you're a Build Fighters fan or an Astray enthusiast who likes the look, this is more than worth recommending — it's a well-rounded kit. Clean and satisfying to build, great articulation, solid joint strength — it definitely delivers where it counts :-)

| Joint Strength | ★★★★★☆ | The base frame's joint strength is excellent. The shield stability is genuinely impressive. |
| Internal Frame | ★★★★★ | Carrying on the tradition of a complete full-body frame. This one's always lived and died by its frame. |

| Weapons / Accessories | ★★★★★☆ | Perfectly functional added armor. |
| Parts Count / Price | ★★★★★ | 417 parts total. 83.4 parts per ¥1,000. Pretty good value. |
| Uniqueness | ★★★★★★ | A great base kit with bulked-up accessories that address its shortcomings. Quality is nearly flawless, but its origins are the deciding factor. |
