Concept-X 6-1-2 Turn X

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Decals

With so many kits already out there, the MG lineup doesn't surprise you much anymore — but then this one comes along and completely blows your mind. The Turn X from Turn A Gundam has arrived as an MG, and it's turned out to be a masterpiece that delivers culture shock in all the best ways.

First off, Syd Mead's grotesque design feels vividly brought to life here. The enormous feet that take up half the leg, the fully asymmetrical limbs, the massive weapon platform — everything about it sets it apart from other MGs in both looks and features. And since the Turn X is canonically a huge machine, it comes out as one of the biggest kits in the MG lineup — you'd need something at the level of the MG Sazabi just to stand shoulder to shoulder with it in terms of sheer volume.

The design and construction are so unique that the build process feels noticeably different from your typical MG — in a good way. Despite the complex structure, the parts count is surprisingly efficient, making the build easy and satisfying. Clear parts are used throughout the interior of the body and limbs to great effect, giving everything a real sense of depth, and the parts layout and detail on the weapon platform in particular are just stunning.

The articulation is also better than expected — despite the complex design, the limbs fold up cleanly and move with great flexibility, handling a wide variety of poses and stances without any trouble. And for such a big kit with no polycaps at all, there's barely any looseness anywhere, so the joint strength is excellent. The shoulder joints are relatively less stiff compared to the rest, and the arms do tend to droop slightly when fully extended, but they hold well enough that it's not really a problem.

The Turn X has a bunch of unique gimmicks, and to recreate the scene where it splits into individual limbs for independent attacks, a dedicated clear stand and multiple sub-arms are included — letting you pull off a full all-range attack display. It's worth praising that even with this unusual joint setup where the limbs articulate and detach, the separation and connection points hold together well during posing. There's also a separate gimmick included to recreate the collab scene with Turn A Gundam, and overall it really feels like they went all out to cover as many canonical scenarios as possible.

Anyway, I went into this one without huge expectations, but it turned out to be a massive, personality-packed kit unlike anything else in the lineup — delivering fresh culture shock in all sorts of ways. The overall quality is top-notch, but more than that, it's got this strong personality and sense of novelty that a score alone can't really capture — building it and reviewing it was just a lot of fun. The price is a bit steep relative to the content, but it's absolutely worth the money, and I'd strongly recommend it not just to Turn A fans, but to anyone who's gotten a little tired of the same old Gunpla. :-)
