Sinanju Stein [Narrative Ver.]

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Seals

Following the Sinanju in 2008 and the Sinanju Stein Ver.Ka in 2013, we now have the Sinanju Stein [Narrative Ver.] released as an MG. Essentially, it's a kit based on the existing MG Sinanju Stein Ver.Ka with changed molded colors and some parts swapped out or added. The weapons have been changed, markings added to the chest and arms, and the backpack's propellant tanks have been replaced with the longer Sinanju-style parts.

In reality, only 2 runners are completely new additions, with some runners from the MG Sinanju added in, plus duplicate runners included for color accuracy — which is why the box got bigger too. But since there are so many leftover parts, the actual usable part count hasn't increased all that much.

First of all, as befitting a variation of the masterpiece MG Sinanju, it delivers excellent proportions and detail, top-tier articulation, and decent joint strength. That said, some parts still don't hold on very well and can pop off during posing. The propellant tanks are larger now, which makes the lower backpack section even more prone to coming loose, and the fingers on the fully articulated hands tend to fall off easily too. Perhaps aware of this, a fixed rifle-gripping right hand is included as an extra, so at least you won't have to worry about the high beam rifle's grip strength.

The various other deployment gimmicks and frame structure are identical to the original, so the basic characteristics of the Sinanju Stein can be MG Sinanju Stein Ver.Ka Reviewchecked in more detail there. In this review, you'll mainly want to focus on the changed color scheme and the added/swapped parts.

A few more points worth noting: the markings on the chest and forearms only use seals for the white band portions, which gives a pretty clean look overall. With the MG Sinanju, the seals had both black and gold printed together, so unless you cut out the black areas, it looked a bit messy and lacked depth. It seems like that feedback was taken on board here — just applying the white bands is much easier and cleaner, which is a nice improvement. On top of that, you can attach the bazooka to the bottom of the high beam rifle, or detach the grenade launcher stored inside the shield and attach it to the high beam rifle as well.

So while it's been a while since this base kit was reused, it's still a stylish and high-quality kit through and through. Dropping the Ver.Ka title means you can get it done quickly with just seals and stickers, which could be seen as a plus depending on your preference. Either way, if you're a fan of the Sinanju series, this is a solid MG worth recommending. :-)

* The scoring system used only for MG has been carried over from First 1.0 twenty years ago,
so applying it uniformly even to the latest kits — whose quality has leveled up across the board — is honestly a bit ambiguous.
Since it's just my personal take and can't clearly capture the differences in kit quality over the years,
please don't read too much into it and just use it as a loose reference.
(For kits scoring above 100, take it to mean the quality is much better than kits of the past.)
