MG GN 002

Gundam Dynames

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Seals

It's been 10 years since the MG Gundam Exia came out in 2009, and now Gundam Dynames has finally gotten the MG treatment too. It almost feels like they're way late to the party — you can't help but wonder why it took this long. My guess is that kits that were planned back in the day but put on hold are finally seeing the light of day, probably due to a shortage of new source material.

Whatever the reason behind its release, I went in without high expectations and came out genuinely surprised — because it turned out way better than I anticipated. The balance between articulation and joint strength is exceptionally well-tuned, giving you that sweet spot where everything moves smoothly but holds its position perfectly. Sure, there have been other MGs with good articulation and joint strength before, but this Gundam Dynames takes it a step further — it's the ultimate, flawless balance that tops everything that came before it.

Not only do the limbs fold completely, but the hip slide gimmick also works with a noticeably wide range of motion and is genuinely effective. On top of that, the waist and neck are flexible, and the ankles are nice and supple too, so you can pull off all kinds of dynamic poses. The feet are small by design — almost dainty — which could be a concern, but the ankles have some of the strongest joints I've ever seen on an MG, so even with those tiny feet, it supports the body safely without any issues.

On top of that, this suit comes loaded with accessories like the GN Shield and GN Full Shield hanging all over it, but they don't fall off easily even when you're posing it in all sorts of positions. Thanks to the excellent articulation, you can bend it this way and that and the pose just stays put — posing is incredibly easy and stress-free. This kit really stands at the pinnacle of what Bandai is going for with their action figure-style plastic models.

There's also a clever touch where the fixing pin positions are shaped differently for the left and right swappable hands, so you'll never mix them up. And since all the weapon grips connect via fixing pins, the grip issue is cleanly solved as well. In terms of articulation and holding poses, this kit deserves to be called the most complete MG out there.

If I had to point out one thing that bugs me... while everything holds together really solidly, the GN Beam Pistol holster that attaches to the side of the leg does occasionally pop off. It's not that the hold is bad — it's just that the way it's positioned means it tends to get in the way a lot. That said, it's only a relative complaint; the fit itself isn't actually loose.

As for MG-exclusive features, the missile pod open gimmick on the front skirt and knee areas is reproduced, and the GN verniers on the back have a linked deployment gimmick. Like the MG Exia, hologram parts are included, and the GN Drive is also set up to accommodate the separately sold LED unit.

Overall, this is a kit that delivers a clean, flawless build quality and a whole lot of satisfaction. Especially in terms of articulation and joint strength, I'd say it's the best MG ever made. It almost makes you wish they could've done this sooner — if they were capable of this all along, it would've been great if all the other MGs had come out at this level too.

If you're a fan of Gundam Dynames, this is obviously a must-buy, and honestly, even if you're not particularly into this suit, it's still highly recommended. Aren't you curious what it feels like to experience the absolute peak of building satisfaction within MG — Bandai's ultimate Gunpla lineup? :-)

* The scoring system used only for MG has been carried over from First 1.0 twenty years ago,
so applying it uniformly even to the latest kits — whose quality has leveled up across the board — is honestly a bit ambiguous.
Since it's just my personal take and can't clearly capture the differences in kit quality over the years,
please don't read too much into it and just use it as a loose reference.
(For kits scoring above 100, take it to mean the quality is much better than kits of the past.)
