MG GN-003

Gundam Kyrios

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Seals

Following the excellent MG Gundam Dynames, Gundam Kyrios has now made its MG debut as well. As expected, it shares the same GN Frame runners as Dynames as its base, and it's come out as a top-tier action pro-model with the same class-leading articulation and joint strength. Whether it's because Bandai's developers really put their heart into it starting with Gundam Dynames, the 00 series MGs are showing top-of-the-line quality across the board.

The hologram sheets that are a tradition of 00 kits are applied the same as in previous releases, and there's also support for installing an LED unit in the GN Drive. Even the small gimmick of exposing the GN verniers through the side leg armor has been implemented. The weapon loadout is faithfully reproduced too — on top of the standard weapons, two GN Hand Missile Units are included, which can either be mounted on the forearms or fitted with a handle to be held in the hand. There's also a gimmick for the GN Beam Sub Machine Gun's scope where you push it in by hand and press a switch on the back to pop it back out.

The frame is implemented close to a full-body frame, though the forearms, elbows, shin guards, ankle guards, and part of the chest armor cannot be removed. The frame itself is also just a bare skeleton without any mechanical detail, which makes it feel relatively plain compared to Gundam Dynames.

Thanks to the class-A action frame, even with the armor on the limbs fold completely, delivering top-tier articulation. Since it shares the same base frame as Gundam Dynames, all the articulation characteristics are similar — the special joints like the torso center rotation and the neck bending far forward are all reproduced here as well. One thing to note is that the front skirt tends to pop off during posing; since the front skirt itself is thin and long in shape, it seems fine as long as you move the legs carefully to avoid catching it.

The Flight Form transformation gimmick unique to Gundam Kyrios is also well reproduced — between the shoulder locking pins and the weapon securing, it holds a stable transformed pose in several ways. The transformation process itself isn't all that complex, but the base joint strength is solid enough that the proportions hold up nicely after transformation. You can also display it on an Action Base using the slide-lock joint parts, and landing gear gimmicks are provided on the arms and lower body, so the landed state looks convincingly done too.

All in all, this is a class-A MG that delivers an excellent feel in hand, great articulation, and clean yet premium detail. It seems to have been born as a top-notch kit that stands shoulder to shoulder with its predecessor, MG Gundam Dynames. :-)

* The scoring system used only for MG has been carried over from First 1.0 twenty years ago,
so applying it uniformly even to the latest kits — whose quality has leveled up across the board — is honestly a bit ambiguous.
Since it's just my personal take and can't clearly capture the differences in kit quality over the years,
please don't read too much into it and just use it as a loose reference.
(For kits scoring above 100, take it to mean the quality is much better than kits of the past.)
