MG FA-010S

Full Armor ZZ Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build + Decals + Panel lining

Following the Sentinel version FAZZ Ver.Ka, the original version Full Armor ZZ has now been upgraded to Ver.Ka as well. The contents are based on MG FAZZ Ver. Ka, combined with MG ZZ Gundam Ver.Kaand MG ZZ Gundam Ver.Ka Enhanced expansion parts. There are some new runners included, but the separated parts are more about changes in molded color combinations rather than new sculpting.

The end result is a kit that shares the same main body as the FAZZ, but combines the original ZZ Gundam's head, backpack, and double beam rifle. The core characteristics are nearly identical to the FAZZ Ver.Ka — it still delivers incredible volume, weight, impressive detail, and solid joint strength. Since there isn't really any new sculpting worth hunting for, in this review you can probably just focus on observing the color changes and parts combinations. Posing was never easy with this kit to begin with, but just standing it there is more than enough to make its presence known.

The biggest difference from the FAZZ is the backpack design. The mount point for the Hyper Mega Cannon sits lower than on the FAZZ, which causes serious interference with the head antenna and shoulder armor — it's a real pain T_T. Turning the head to the left actually works out fine, but when you face it straight forward, the right head antenna gets in the way badly. Pulling the mount up to extend it helps somewhat, but it's definitely more of a hassle than the FAZZ.

To be fair, the FAZZ Ver.Ka also had some interference between the Hyper Mega Cannon and the head antenna. But since the Hyper Mega Cannon sits a bit higher and the head antenna is slightly shorter on that kit, there were ways to work around it. With this one though, I think I spent a good 30 minutes just trying to get the angle right for a front shot. On top of that, just like the FAZZ, the weight of the Hyper Mega Cannon and double beam rifle inevitably tilts the upper body slightly to the right — and with the head antenna interference on top of that, getting it to stand straight was a real struggle.

For what it's worth, in my case I added some reinforcement on top of the right thigh to prevent the upper body from leaning to the right (see the review photos above). Simply using double-sided tape to build up the thickness there can correct the lean quite a bit. (Same goes for the FAZZ Ver.Ka.) Also worth noting — this kit can also be configured as the Enhanced ZZ Gundam Ver.Ka, but there are some differences compared to the Club G version in terms of the chest structure, presence of plated parts, rear skirt shape, and forearm frame and design.

One thing I'm a bit disappointed about is the color separation. The areas that used to pop with silver plated parts on the MG ZZ Gundam Ver.Ka have been changed to gray, making things feel just a touch more plain. Also, since the kit reuses the monochrome FAZZ parts where the verniers weren't color-separated at all, the verniers on the shoulders and legs have zero color separation. The main body actually has nicely done color-separated vernier interiors, but then you go and cover them up with the Full Armor panels that have no color separation — a bit of an ironic situation. The bare-looking verniers on the legs in particular really make you wonder if this is really an MG kit that costs over ¥10,000.

So overall, yes, this is undeniably one of the greatest MGs ever made — but compared to the FAZZ, there are some demerits in terms of interference and color separation. I'd recommend gluing the head antenna (which keeps falling off due to the interference) with some adhesive, and adding reinforcement on the right thigh to fix the lean. Anyway, there are a few things to nitpick, but it's genuinely an impressive kit with a lot going for it in terms of detail and sheer volume. If you're a fan of those chunky, content-packed high-end MG kits, this is definitely one worth going for. :-)

CategoryRatingAnalysis
Seam Lines★★★★★Hyper Mega Cannon and extra armor — all perfectly done
Molding Color / Color Separation★★★★☆The colors look great, but the vernier color separation is a letdown..
Proportions★★★★★Unbeatable volume. But the Hyper Mega Cannon interference makes posing a real challenge
Articulation★★★★Articulation was never really the point of this kit to begin with.
Joint Strength★★★★★The joints themselves are excellent, but the body lean is just unavoidable.
Internal Frame★★★★★Even the enhanced arm frame is faithfully included.
Detail★★★★★Maybe it's the color combination, but it actually looks more refined than the FAZZ.
Weapons / Accessories★★★★★Ultimate-level volume, pricey but packed with content.
Parts Count / Price★★★★★★★798 parts total. Parts per ¥1,000: 70. A new parts count record!
Uniqueness★★★★★★★In more ways than one, this is among the ultimate MGs out there.
Dalong's Point : 115 pts.

* The scoring system used only for MG has been carried over from First 1.0 twenty years ago,
so applying it uniformly even to the latest kits — whose quality has leveled up across the board — is honestly a bit ambiguous.
Since it's just my personal take and can't clearly capture the differences in kit quality over the years,
please don't read too much into it and just use it as a loose reference.
(For kits scoring above 100, take it to mean the quality is much better than kits of the past.)
