Rick-Dom

Kit Review

Straight build + Partial paint + Panel lining + Decals

Following the MG Dom, the Rick-Dom has been released. Since 95% of the basic skeletal structure, articulation, and kit characteristics are identical to the existing Dom, please refer to the MG Dom Review for a detailed overall review.

As a space-use unit, the Rick-Dom has a few differences from the original Dom.

1. Molded color shifted to a darker shade
2. Backpack verniers are larger
3. Sole vernier detail revised (increased number of verniers)
4. Rear skirt enlarged
5. Beam bazooka added

Being a space-type, the verniers are reinforced, and in place of the MG Dom's machine gun, 880mm RB-T27 bazooka, and Sturm Faust, the beam bazooka takes over. The armament count is down, but that one massive beam bazooka — the Rick-Dom's signature piece — more than covers for it ^^

The Rick-Dom's molded color is deeper and weightier compared to the Dom's bright, almost garish tone, so just in terms of the molded color itself, the Rick-Dom actually feels better. It has a more settled feel compared to the Dom, which tended to be very hit-or-miss depending on personal taste.

Just like the Dom, it inherits the excellent articulation, mechanical frame, and solid joint strength, so the Rick-Dom's quality is right on the same level. It's not a drastically changed variation, but it does give off a noticeably different vibe (especially thanks to the beam bazooka). It's the kind of kit where you'll agonize over choosing between it and the MG Dom since each has its own strengths — in which case, the best solution is just to build both and display them together ^^;

CategoryRatingAnalysis
Seam Lines★★★★★Every trick in the book to
hide those seam lines!
Molding Color / Color Separation★★★★★Perfect color separation.
Faithful molded colors.
Proportions★★★★★That hefty
build is reproduced perfectly.
Articulation★★★★☆Articulation is fantastic
for its size! The double-jointed fingers and ankles in particular
are excellent.
Joint Strength★★★★The weight is a real burden,
but the joints themselves are on the sturdy side. Grip strength is a little disappointing though.
Internal Frame★★★★The arms feel a bit bare,
but everything else is pretty impressive.
Detail★★★★★You can clearly see
the developer put a lot of thought and effort into this.
Weapons / Accessories★★★★★The little extras are gone, but
the sheer charisma of that massive beam bazooka steals the show.
Parts Count / Price★★★★274 parts total. Parts per ¥1,000: 68.5.
Part count reduced because of the beam bazooka.
Uniqueness★★★★★The Dom series is
all masterpieces. The beam bazooka's impact is top-notch!
Dalong's Point : 93 pts.
