Zaku II F2 ~ Clear Version

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the MG Zaku F2 All Clear kit released as a limited edition for the 2007 Modelers Cup contest. It was actually released as a set of three, together with the Blue Clear and Red Clear versions.

The base kit itself is a bit on the older side, but it's a solid MG that stays true to the basics — articulation is nothing special, but overall it shows great proportions and parts layout, making it a good kit. The All Clear version in particular is excellent, with the outer armor going fully clear to give a great see-through effect on the inner frame, and the overall clear material look and presence are impressive too. With all-clear kits, the inner frame can sometimes feel a bit off — either too packed or too sparse — but this one seems to strike just the right balance. The only downside is that it's not a full-body frame, so there's a little less to see through, which is a bit of a shame.

Compared to the other Zaku F2 clear versions released alongside it, the Blue and Red were so heavily tinted you could barely see the inner frame at all — but the All Clear has this nice, crisp, clean look to it. The molded detail on the inside of the armor pairs really well with the frame underneath, and out of the three clear versions, this one feels like the best of the bunch. ^^

It's a contest limited edition, so it's definitely harder to track down, but in terms of rarity and quality, it's absolutely worthy of being a contest prize. A great limited edition kit. :-)
