MG RGM-79C

GM TYPE C (GM Custom) Standard Color

Kit Review

Straight build + panel lining + decals + partial painting

Just as you'd expect, the GM Custom space type has been released following the ground type. As per the original setting, there is absolutely zero difference between the ground type and space type units themselves — the only thing that changes is the molded color, so for a detailed breakdown of the kit's basic characteristics, please refer to the GM Custom ground type review.

Unlike the ground type, the GM Custom space type comes in a combination of red and bright lime green — a color scheme that's almost identical to the original GM's classic colors. That bright lime green molded color tends to get very different reactions from person to person; some find it quite pretty, while others absolutely hate it. Personally, I think it looks nice, but if you have a strange aversion to this color scheme, I'd strongly recommend checking it out at a physical store before buying.

The GM Custom space type is also one of those high-quality kits that delivers decent articulation, solid joint strength, a pretty cool internal frame, and a generous weapons loadout. Of course, just like the ground type, the lack of extra hand parts and the somewhat stiff ankle joints that limit action poses are still a bit annoying — but in terms of bang for your buck for a ¥2,500 budget MG, it's safe to say this is among the very best MGs out there.

On top of that, the space type includes all the weapons from the ground type as a baseline, with the space type long rifle parts thrown in on top. This long, sleek long rifle is essentially a bonus — it doesn't get much better than this~ ^^ If you're torn between the ground type and the space type, that bonus weapon might just tip the scales for you. The one caveat is that the long rifle's rear magazine does limit posing options a bit.

Anyway, setting the price aside, this is just a genuinely great kit — easy to recommend without hesitation.
If there's another kit out there that delivers this much at this price, step right up~ ^^;

CategoryRatingAnalysis
Seam Lines★★★★☆Not perfect, but it covers things up pretty naturally without looking awkward.
Molding Color / Color Separation★★★★☆Molded colors excellent, color separation very excellent. The clear parts on the head are just... plain clear..
Proportions★★★★★Nice~
Articulation★★★★Above average cleanliness. If only the ankles were a bit more flexible..
Joint Strength★★★★☆Not too stiff, not too loose — just about right. Could stand to be just a tiny bit stiffer though..
Internal Frame★★★★Legs and backpack are great, arms are a bit bare.
Detail★★★★★Detailed all around.. This is on a whole different level from the old ¥2,500 kits!
Weapons / Accessories★★★★★Four types of rifles. Revamped core block. Even more weapons than the ground type.
Parts Count / Price★★★★☆225 parts total. Parts per ¥1,000: 90. Decent volume.
Uniqueness★★★A simple variation. But the value for money is outstanding.
Dalong's Point : 88 pts.
