Gundam ver. O.Y.W 0079 (PS2 soft)

The 7th RX-78, MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079, has arrived..

Comparison with v1.0. You can really feel that 10-year gap between these two kits.
It's improved by several steps in every area — articulation, joint strength, detail, frame, proportions, molded color, you name it.

Rear view comparison with v1.0

Comparison with v1.5. The kit that MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 should really be measured against is probably v1.5..
The impressive leg frame carries over straight from v1.5, but the feet, torso, and arms are completely
revamped on MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079, and I can't help but prefer the feel of it. :-)
The forearms on MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 are noticeably thicker, in particular. (To be more precise, v1.5's are just too thin.)
Compared to v1.5's relatively clean exterior, MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 feels a bit.. maybe too busy? @.@

One look at the back of the legs and you can easily tell they share the same skeleton.

v1.5's leg frame is still the best! And MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 carries it right over.

An odd one out. Comparison with the Perfect Gundam base body.
The Perfect base body has a clean, simple charm that feels faithful to the original, and it gives off a very different vibe from MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079.

The difference in feel from the rear view between the Perfect base body and MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 is pretty striking too~

They're both RX-78s, yet they look so completely different.. ^^;

Comparison with Ver.Ka, which you could call the side-story version.
Well.. their design styles were completely different to begin with, so the comparison feels a bit awkward.
Ver.Ka's molded color was already somewhat ivory-ish, but MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 goes even more yellowy.

v1.0, v1.5, and MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 — which is essentially the real v2.0.

Looking at how the articulation has evolved, it's almost like watching a theory of evolution play out.
Looks like MG really has been evolving all along! ^^

Throwing Ver.Ka and the Perfect base body into the mix for an articulation comparison.
Compared to the somewhat average Ver.Ka, the Perfect base body is surprisingly more flexible than it looks — quite impressive.

As a side note.. v1.0 and v1.5 share the same shield, but the design was changed slightly with MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079.
If you look closely, the panel lines along the edges of the shield are a bit different..

Look even closer and the size and detail of the two holes at the top are a bit different too.

The molding on the inside of the shield has changed as well.

The rifle has also gotten a complete makeover with a much sleeker look. The one on the bottom belongs to MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079.

The bazooka has evolved too. The style changed slightly with MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079.
And thrown in at the very bottom is Ver.Ka's completely different bazooka design.
