Dom ver. O.Y.W 0079 (PS2 soft)

Kit Review

Straight build + panel lining + stickers & decals

Following the Zaku and Gouf, the third entry in the Zeon OYW series is
none other than the Dom. Like the others, this is essentially the same Dom kit with only the molded colors changed — swapped out for soft pastel pinkish tones and a lighter gray. So for a more detailed review of the weapons and basic construction, please check out the MG Dom review for reference.

First off, the new molded colors feel a bit in-between — not quite one thing or the other. Kind of like a halfway point between the original Dom and the Rick Dom? It's got that same soft pastel vibe as the other OYW kits, and the lighter gray really brightens up the overall look of the kit. Compared to the original Dom's purple tones — which were accurate to the source material but a bit heavy — the OYW version's colors come across as more understated and easy on the eyes. That said, color preference is a personal thing, so it's hard to say definitively ^^;

Since the original Dom was already such a high-quality masterpiece to begin with, this kit carries that same excellent overall balance. That said — whether it's just because it's a new production run or there were some minor tweaks to the polycaps — the joints feel a bit stiffer than before. Especially the knees... The original Dom already had fairly solid joints, but given how big and heavy it is, the knees always looked a little iffy. If you picked up the body horizontally, the weight of the legs would cause the knee joints to sag on their own... but given the sheer size of the thing, that was kind of understandable ^^;

But with the OYW version Dom, even if you hold the body tilted back, the knees don't buckle — it just holds those heavy feet and legs straight up without budging. As a result, all the action poses lock in really solidly. It's unclear whether there were actual revisions or not, but the noticeably tighter joints on the OYW version are definitely a plus. ^^

And... just like the Gouf, the figure that was included in the original kit is missing here. OTL
They quietly snuck it out without a word. Tsk, nothing you can do about it.

Color-wise, it naturally pairs really well with the other OYW versions... and on top of the already great quality, there are even some minor improvements — this is truly the Dom kit at its finest. Even setting aside the fact that it's "the Dom," purely on quality and score alone, this is still the best kit of the four OYW Zeon lineup.
