Clear Parts

| This kit was released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gundam, and it's an MG clear exterior parts version — essentially the same contents as the original kit with just one extra clear runner added. In other words, it lets you choose between standard armor and clear armor for certain exterior parts, so for the basic kit features please refer to the normal version review. This review only covers the added clear parts. |
◆ Coverage and Effect
One entire arm and the thigh and foot areas of one leg have been made clear, but since it's only a half-clear treatment and the leg isn't fully clear, it feels a bit half-baked. The biggest and most important section — the lower leg/calf below the knee — is missing, which probably makes it look even more incomplete.
The clear parts that are included have great transparency and decent inner armor detail, as you'd expect from a 2.0 kit, so the visual effect is pretty impressive. The inner frame color is also on the brighter side, which makes the see-through effect work really well.
◆ Difficulty of Swapping Parts
Overall the swapping isn't too difficult, but as with many other kits, you need to be careful when removing the foot cover parts. In particular, when detaching them after the clear parts have been attached, the locking pins can be quite tight and there's a risk of them snapping — so make sure you know where the pins are and ease them off gently.
◆ Overall Impressions
The inner frame and the clear parts themselves look pretty nice, but there just aren't enough clear parts... and the leg armor that feels like it was only half-swapped is a bit of an eyesore. You're probably better off approaching this as bonus parts without expecting too much. :-)
