| This kit is an MG clear exterior parts version released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gundam. It's essentially the same contents as the original kit, but with one extra clear runner added. In other words, it lets you choose between standard armor and clear armor for certain exterior parts, so for the basic kit features please refer to the normal version review — this review only covers the added clear parts. |
◆ Where It's Applied and the Effect
One arm and parts of the legs have been made clear, though it's not the whole thing — just certain sections here and there in a somewhat piecemeal way. On the arm, the shoulder armor, the bicep area, and the outer forearm parts are clear. On the legs, the thigh, the front of the knee, and the top of the foot are clear.
As you'd expect from a ver.2.0 kit, the clarity and inner detail of the clear armor parts are excellent, and the effect of seeing the inner frame through them is really impressive. The coverage is a bit hit-or-miss, but the clear effect itself is definitely there.
◆ How Hard Is It to Swap?
As long as you're careful when removing the foot armor, swapping the parts is pretty straightforward overall.
◆ Overall Thoughts
It's a bit of a half-baked clear treatment — the clear parts look great, but the areas they're applied to feel inconsistent, so it's hard to call this a particularly good clear parts kit. If nothing else, I wish they'd made the thick leg armor clear like on the Sazabi or Dom — that would've been so much better. After all, what really makes clear parts stand out isn't how many there are, but where they're placed and how much surface area they cover. :-)
