This is the Extra Finish version of the RX-78 Ver. O.Y.W. (a.k.a. MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079), which was released as a venue-exclusive at the 2006 Gundam Expo. The ver1.0 and ver1.5 both had plated versions back in the day, and now MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 is getting the plated treatment too. Truly the main character~!! This time around though, instead of the old shiny-style coating, it comes out as an Extra Finish version with a subtle semi-gloss finish. Thanks to that, it shows off a calm, clean, and even coating feel.
If you want to know more about the kit itself, check out the normal version's RX-78 MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 reviewfor reference. Since the MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 was already a clean, high-quality kit to begin with, the Extra Finish version MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 is equally great to build... good articulation... solid joints... great detail. The gate marks do show up here and there as is typical with plated kits, but given the complex panel lines and the subtle sheen of the coating, they don't stand out too badly.
One thing that sets this apart from older plated versions is that the weapons are coated in a dark iron Extra Finish. Weapons do get the coating treatment occasionally, but the dark iron coating on the MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 Extra Finish version has a really striking color and looks fantastic. ^^ And as you'd expect from a plated kit, the joints are a bit stiffer, so the whole body locks in rock-solid without any looseness whatsoever. Great articulation combined with excellent joint strength makes this a fantastic kit for striking action poses. :-)
Since the base kit is already one of the most well-regarded releases out there, there's really not much else to add beyond this. ^^
