Kit Review

A limited edition of the Freedom Gundam — one of the MG line's all-time bestsellers — has arrived. For such a popular kit, they've been surprisingly restrained about milking it, haven't they? ^^; Of course, Freedom did get an Extra Finish version before, but that wasn't a limited release — it was a regular retail kit (meaning it could be reprinted).
This limited edition isn't titled a "clear version" but rather a "clear color version," which means not all the armor parts are clear. Only the base color parts — the ones that were originally molded in white — are done in clear, while the remaining blue and red armor parts are molded in gloss injection, giving them a smooth, shiny finish.
As tends to be the case with clear versions, the tolerances tighten up a bit and the joints feel sturdier compared to the normal version, which makes it easier to hold poses and stand on its own — a nice bonus. And since the armor parts are clear, you can see the inner frame through them... but maybe because this kit has relatively small armor surface areas, the inner frame doesn't show through nearly as much as on other clear versions.
Since the base kit is such a popular and well-made product, this is a high-quality limited edition — and if you've been eyeing a unique clear version of the Freedom Gundam, I'd recommend grabbing one from the initial import stock while it's still available at a relatively affordable price for a limited release. :-)
