MG RX-78 NT-1

Gundam NT-1 ~ Gold Coating Version

Kit Review

Straight build

The Gundam NT-1 Alex was also released as a 24k gold plating version, as a limited contest prize item.
Just like the Zeta 24k gold plating version, it's a kit with a metallic plated surface that has a touch of real gold mixed in — and the plating quality is far better than the Zeta. Overall there's almost no unevenness in the color tone, and it shows a smoother, more mirror-like reflective shine.

Of course, this is also partly due to the NT-1's distinctive armor shape — lots of wide, flat surfaces overall — as opposed to Zeta Gundam's more intricate design. In other words, the surface is easier to plate, which is probably why the plating quality looks so good. And as expected with a plating version, it's a bit different from a regular coating version — the gate marks are rougher and trickier to clean up. It has a hard feel, almost like metal mixed into a painted surface, so if you don't clean it up carefully, the plated surface can crack or chip off in places.. ;;

This kit is basically built on the normal MG NT-1 as its base, but in terms of format it was released in a similar style to the NT-1 Metal Clear limited edition — with the clear polycaps and Chobham armor sections. The metal clear version already boasted incredible mirror-like shine, but it's no match for the real 24k gold plated surface. ^^;

Anyway, between the top-quality 24k gold plating and the clear Chobham armor and everything else, this is definitely a kit you can consider the most premium limited edition of the bunch. :-)
