This kit is a Yahoo mail-order exclusive limited edition of the Gundam RX-78 Ver. O.Y.W. (One Year War) in movie image colors. The concept is supposedly based on the color palette from the First movie, but honestly the colors are pretty far off from what the Gundam actually looked like in the film (-_-;) — it's really better to just think of it as a plated kit with a heavier, more subdued color scheme.

The overall coating colors are very deep and dark, so depending on how you look at it, it can come across as a bit drab, or alternatively as having a solid, weighty feel. The blue/yellow/red areas of the body are just deeper-toned versions of the standard colors, while the base body areas get a light gray coating. The problem is that the coating is so subtle that if you're not looking closely, it's hard to tell whether it's even coated at all — which is a bit of a letdown for a plated limited edition.

Unlike most other limited editions, this kit comes with a set of dedicated seals made specifically for it. So even though I normally don't put seals on plated versions, I went ahead and applied them here. Thanks to that, even though the coating isn't very noticeable, the kit still manages to have its own personality.

The coating concept is a bit ambiguous, but the weighty look does have its appeal, and the base kit — the MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 — is such a solid kit to begin with that the overall impression is still a good one as a limited edition. With Gundam 2.0 already out, future limited edition releases will probably shift toward that, but the MG Gundam Ver. O.Y.W. 0079 is still very much a classic that defined its era. ^_^
