PG GN-0000 + GNA-010

00raiser : Clear Parts

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is a clear armor parts set sold as a first-run limited item for the PG 00 Raiser. Unlike the PG Astray where it was included for free as a first-run bonus, this one works by giving first-print buyers a purchase voucher — it's a limited-production item available through pre-order. The price is ¥4000, which seems reasonable enough for what you get.

First off, contrary to pre-release concerns, the main body can have all of its armor replaced with clear parts. It's not like the PG Astray where only some parts go clear, which is a relief — though the white armor sections of the GN Sword on the 00 Raiser's runners are excluded from the clear treatment. Well, at least the main body itself can be fully swapped to 100% clear armor, so that's something.

The quality of the clear parts themselves isn't bad, but the plastic is extremely rigid by nature, so cleaning them up takes a lot of tedious work. That said, for a PG kit the inner armor detail is a bit lacking, so you don't really get that intricate, precise look that clear parts are known for. On top of that, the inner frame color is so dark that the see-through effect isn't all that impressive either. I think you just have to appreciate this for what it is — a clear version of the PG 00 Raiser, and leave it at that.

As you'd expect from a PG, there's a huge number of armor pieces, and swapping them all out took upwards of 2–3 hours. Some parts are tricky to disassemble, so the clear parts-specific manual only covers the easier ones to swap out. But with a little extra effort, even the harder-to-remove pieces can be taken apart, and the main body can be fully converted to 100% clear parts.

Honestly, it's a little annoying that they're charging money for something that came free with the PG Astray... but compared to the Astray's clear parts, the fact that you can swap out the entire main body does earn it some credit. A clear color limited version of the PG OO could have easily been released down the line, but this is clearly a marketing strategy to boost early sales numbers even just a little.

If you picked up the PG 00 Raiser as a first-run purchase, this is probably something you'll want to grab regardless — but it does make you wonder if Bandai's marketing strategy needs a bit of a rethink. It's a limited edition that's not really a limited edition. :-)
