MS-06 Zaku II Custom Set #1 : Clear Body & Weapons

Kit Review

Straight build

This is the Custom Set #1 for the PG Zaku II released in 1999, and it's a similar package to the previously released Custom Set for the PG First Gundam. Basically it's an option kit that bundles half the clear armor with weapons. With the PG First Gundam set, the clear armor was split left and right, whereas this kit only provides clear parts for both arms and the lower legs.

It seems the areas covered differ from the First Gundam set due to how the armor runners are divided, but the transparency is still great, making it a nice setup for showing off the inner mechanical frame. It's also designed to be compatible with both the Char's Custom and mass production type right out of the box.

The weapons consist of two bazookas, two crackers, and their respective mounting parts — but beyond the sheer size, there's nothing particularly special in terms of PG-exclusive gimmicks. The bazooka rack attaches to the side of the backpack, but you have to disassemble and reassemble the screws holding the power pipe connections on the backpack, which is a bit of a pain. In my case, I was trying to unscrew and attach it after about 20 years (-_-), and the screws and the springs inside the power pipes had aged so much that just getting it apart was a real struggle.;;;

Like the previous sets, it's a solid option kit, and for anyone looking to dress up their PG Zaku a bit more, it'll be a worthwhile rare find. :-)
