SD BB Senshi

Gundam GP01Fb

Kit Review

Straight build

Separate from the reprint lineup of the old G-Generation SD kits, the Gundam GP01FB has been released as the first entry in the BB Senshi series — what you could call the new-generation SD line. It's been assigned number 193, continuing on from the old SD series numbering, but either way, this is the kit where the new-era SD officially begins.

Overall, it's noticeably bigger than the old SD kits, and the quality has improved a bit too. Elbow articulation, which was only available on select kits in the old SD line, is now standard across the board, and the hollowed-out look has been toned down as well.

The SD Gundam GP01FB can also be swapped out to the regular GP01 configuration, and it recreates the design fairly faithfully. That said, the swapping process is a lot more of a hassle than you'd expect — it basically feels like you're tearing the whole thing apart and rebuilding it from scratch. It's snap-fit, sure, but the joints are so stiff that once you've done the swap, you'll probably never want to do it again. ^^;

Anyway, aside from the somewhat painful swapping process, the kit itself is a solid new-generation SD with noticeably better quality than the old ones. For 0083 fans, it's pretty much a must-have. :-)
