SD BB Senshi

W-Gundam Zero Custom

Kit Review

Straight build

The old-style G Generation line had the Wing Gundam and Wing Zero Gundam, and now the new SD BB Senshi line has given us the Wing Zero Custom. As you can see in the photo above, it comes with a larger size and more convincing proportions, as you'd expect from a newer release.

First off, the wings — the most iconic feature of the Wing Zero Custom — turned out better than expected for an SD kit. The two-stage joints give them a wide range of movement, and you can even recreate the atmospheric re-entry mode configuration. You can also combine the twin buster rifles for Wing Zero Custom's signature double shot pose, and the shoulder joints are cleverly designed to swing further forward than just about any other kit to make that happen. ^^

As a bonus, you also get a relatively large SD-proportioned Heero Yuy figure — something you don't often see in other kits. After only ever seeing tiny 1/100 figures, seeing an SD figure like this is just adorable. ^^ It could easily become a must-have item for anyone who enjoys painting.

The gaping sink holes on the inside of the twin buster rifle are a bit of an eyesore, but overall this kit really feels like Bandai put a lot of effort into capturing the source design, as you'd expect from the new BB Senshi line. The quality is a clear step up from the old releases, so if you're a fan of the Wing Zero Custom, this is a great SD kit that'll be even more fun to build than you'd expect. :-)
