Following the Nu Gundam, ZZ Gundam has now been reborn as a BB Senshi. As you can see in the comparison photos above, the old G Generation ZZ was pretty rough — the proportions were off and the molded colors were dull and just kind of... off. But this new BB Senshi ZZ Gundam is a complete transformation — it's a whole different beast.

Even the straight build alone comes out looking incredibly colorful, and true to ZZ Gundam's character, it's got a nice chunky size and a stylish look for an SD. But the biggest highlight of this SD ZZ Gundam is definitely the nearly perfect transformation gimmick~!!

Some parts are detachable, but a good portion of the transformation gimmick is actually built in, delivering a transformation that's surprisingly close to the MG. It's honestly impressive that the forearm hand-to-vernier rotation, the top panel rotation, the shoulder cover rotation, and the double beam rifle transformation are all reproduced in a way that closely matches the original design ^^ On top of that, the Core Fighter transforms convincingly too, and by cleverly using a detach-and-reattach gimmick in place of the leg rotation, the Core Base transformation is pulled off almost perfectly as well. And to top it all off, the G-Fortress combination comes together cleanly.

Either way, the transformation gimmick alone — which is way beyond what you'd expect from an SD — makes the BB Senshi ZZ Gundam well worth it. It's a really premium SD kit that gives you a satisfying, hands-on feel that's totally different from transforming the MG or HGUC. :-)
