SD BB Senshi

Zaku II

Kit Review

Straight build

The SD line keeps reinventing itself, and this time it's the Zaku II — an icon of the Gundam universe that stands shoulder to shoulder with the First Gundam. The old G Generation Zaku II was small and cute but felt a bit flimsy overall... and sure enough, the new BB Senshi Zaku II has been reborn bigger, beefier, and more solid. ^^

First off, the color separation has become nearly perfect to match the larger size, and the detail on the power pipes and weapons is much more refined. Notably, you get a removable head cover open gimmick along with a mono-eye rotation function, the ability to mount the machine gun magazine on the rear skirt, and the left shoulder that pulls forward — lots of features recreated, as you'd expect from a new release.

One thing that's a bit of a letdown though... the angle of the feet is a little off, so the kit tends to stand like it's slightly floating. It's not bad if you get the pose just right, but there's something about it that feels a little unstable.

Reborn with quality that's incomparably better than the old kit — as you'd expect from a new BB Senshi release — the BB Senshi Zaku II is another high-quality SD kit that I'd recommend to any Gunpla fan across the board. You might think of Char's custom first when you hear "Zaku II," but for some reason, being a bald mass-production type makes you want to build a bunch of them and set up a parade shot... it's just that kind of kit. :-)
