SD BB Senshi

Shining Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build

A reborn version of the old G Generation SD series — this time, Shining Gundam from Mobile Fighter G Gundam has arrived as a BB Senshi. The G Generation kits always had a bit of a toy-like feel to them, both in terms of molded color and proportions, but this BB Senshi Shining Gundam is a massive step up in quality — there's really no comparison.

First off, it's noticeably bigger overall, and the molded color has shifted to gray, making it much closer to the source material. With just a bit of seal work and solid color separation, the accuracy to the design specs is excellent. But the biggest highlight is the articulation — the legs aren't attached at the hip joint directly, but instead connect to the inside of the side skirts, which allows for dynamic poses you just don't see on your average SD kit.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam is an action-heavy series to begin with, and just like how the MG adopted a new action frame, the BB Senshi G Gundam series has brought some fresh ideas to the table as well. On top of that, several differently shaped fluorescent hands are included, which really bumps up the overall quality feel of the kit.

The various Super Mode gimmicks — head, shoulders, feet, forearms and all — are also really well done, giving you a Super Mode that holds its own against the MG and HG Shining Gundam kits. All in all, this kit faithfully captures everything Shining Gundam needs, and I'd say it's one of the standout kits in the BB Senshi lineup — fun to build even if you're not a G Gundam fan. :-)
