The Gundam SEED lineup has kicked off in the BB Senshi series. And naturally, Strike Gundam leads the charge — released first as the base body without any separate weapon packs.
The proportions and detail have a slightly different feel compared to existing SD kits — it's got that classic stubby SD look, but with the arm and leg lines more emphasized. The end result is this oddly sleek-looking SD with a quirky proportion that somehow manages to be both cute and stylish, and I think that's a pretty solid approach ^^
That said, there are quite a few disappointing points on the color separation front. The parts handled with seals are one thing, but there's zero attention paid to the gray areas scattered around the body, and the shield in particular comes out as a flat single red color — very plain and boring. On top of that, other SD kits handle the yellow on the head antenna cleanly through color separation, but the SD Strike Gundam leaves it to seals instead. Overall, the color separation and seal support feels noticeably lacking compared to the Universal Century BB Senshi kits.
As a new-proportion SD series kit, the color separation does leave something to be desired, but the overall build feel and assembly quality are pretty high. With even a bit of partial painting it could look really sharp, so if you're a SEED fan it's a solid, easy-going SD kit worth building :-)
