Kit Review
Straight build
Straight build
The Gundam NT-1 from 0080: War in the Pocket has been released as a BB Senshi kit. There was an old-release G Generation series Kämpfer at some point, but the 0080 mecha seem to be getting the SD treatment unusually slowly.
Just like the MG and HGUC, the SD NT-1 comes with the Chobham Armor included, and despite that, the price is the same ¥500 as other standard SD kits. It sounds like great value on paper, but if you look closely, it feels like the parts going into the base body have been kept to a minimum. Maybe that's why the NT-1 Gundam base body comes across as pretty straightforward with no standout features.
Color separation is done well on the key parts like the chest ducts, head antenna, and forearm covers, so even just the straight build looks decent enough. The forearm Gatling gun is also reproduced as a removable piece, which is a nice touch, and on top of the Chobham Armor, there's also a unique SD-exclusive special headgear included.
There is one puzzling thing about the SD NT-1 — no dedicated beam rifle is included. It's pretty rare to see a kit missing its standard armament, especially the rifle of all things. My guess is they had to cut it to fit everything within the ¥500 parts budget after squeezing in the Chobham Armor, but it's still a bit of an unsatisfying omission.
Either way, this kit is significant simply for the fact that the NT-1 has finally gotten the SD treatment. With the Chobham Armor and Gatling gun both nicely reproduced, it's a solid, well-rounded SD kit. :-)
