SD BB Senshi

Destiny Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build

Following the SD Strike Freedom, its counterpart — the Destiny Gundam — has now been released as a BB Senshi kit. It's priced at 800 yen and comes in a bigger box, but in return you get a ton of beam parts that you rarely see in SD kits. If you were to compare it to an MG, it'd be something like the Extreme Blast Version. ^^

The overall kit composition is similar to the SD SEED Destiny kit — the detachable extension gimmick for the beam cannon and beam sword on the back is nicely reproduced, and the wing articulation is decent too. One thing I noticed is that the shoulders can swing forward quite a bit more flexibly than on other kits. That's probably to help with grabbing the beam cannon on the side, but even so, the angle still doesn't quite work out for actually posing the hand gripping the beam cannon, so it was a bit tricky to pull off.

Without a doubt, the highlight of this kit is the Wings of Light and the wide variety of beam parts that come with it. It's easily the most impressive beam parts lineup of any SD kit — the large Wings of Light look great, and having the beam saber and beam shield done in actual beam parts gives the whole thing a really premium feel. That's a big step up compared to the SD Strike Freedom, which came molded in plain white. On top of that, you even get an energy blast hand as a bonus, so all in all this is pretty much a full-option Destiny Gundam kit.

All things considered, this is the most premium and well-done kit in the SD SEED Destiny lineup — and while it's about 200 yen more expensive because of that, it's absolutely worth every yen. If you're a Destiny Gundam fan, this one's a must-buy~ :-)
