SD BB Senshi

Sazabi

Kit Review

Straight build

There are quite a few kits out there that got released early in a line just because they were popular, and ended up stuck with poor quality as a result... and the SD Sazabi is one of them. The original version of the old SD Sazabi — which was re-released in 1999 as part of G Generation — dates all the way back to 1988, meaning it's a whopping 25-year-old kit. Meanwhile, the Nu Gundam got a BB Senshi re-release back in 2000, but the Sazabi went without any news for a really long time before finally getting a brand-new BB Senshi release. Very welcome! ^^

The part I was most looking forward to was the proportions... and as you can see, they turned out great. Proportions-wise, it actually came out more balanced and well-scaled than the BB Senshi Sinanju — which is something of a classic in its own right — and since the red is done in two tones just like the MG, the overall finish after the straight build looks really impressive.

Sure, the articulation isn't great — but that's par for the course with SD kits — yet the silhouette is so good that it looks imposing just standing there on display. On top of that, you get some unique fin funnel launch effect parts, and while they're not beam parts per se, there are also parts included for the beam sabers. The mono-eye rotation gimmick is a nice bonus!

These days there are more and more kits where just snapping them together gives you a real sense of satisfaction, but this latest BB Senshi Sazabi feels like no amount of praise would ever be enough. And since it's an SD kit, the price isn't too steep either — so whether you're a Char fan, a Universal Century enthusiast, or just someone who loves the Sazabi, if you have any interest at all, this is an SD kit I'd wholeheartedly recommend giving a build. :-)
