Following the spectacular renewal of the BB Senshi Sazabi, the Nu Gundam — which already had a BB Senshi release back in 2000 — has now gotten a renewal version as well. The Sazabi got a complete modern makeover, so it's only natural that its counterpart Nu Gundam would get the same treatment, right? ^^
The overall product follows the recent BB Senshi style, and in particular it's very similar in concept to the Hi-Nu Gundam. Compared to the old version, it's noticeably bigger, and the proportions have a strong Kotobukiya D-Style vibe to them. On top of that, the design and color layout are done in the MG Nu Gundam Ver.Ka style, so the straight build looks absolutely great once it's done.
The weapons loadout isn't anything particularly special, but the fin funnels are a definite upgrade over the old version. The proportions and detail are better, and 2 of the fin funnels can be detached and posed, with a separate launch effect part included too. That said, as you can see in the photos, only those 2 fin funnels have the yellow color separation, which does make things look a little inconsistent.
Overall it's a pretty satisfying renewal, though the color separation is a bit lacking, and the hip ball joints tend to pop out easily — which is a little disappointing, though the same was true of previous kits. There's also a bonus Type 89 Base Jabber included, but it's a single solid one-piece part so the detail is pretty simple — you really have to think of it as just a bonus and nothing more. ^^
Either way, it's a complete transformation compared to the old version, so this is an adorable little kit I'd recommend to all Gundam fans. :-)
