SD BB Senshi

Build Strike Gundam Full Package

Kit Review

Straight build

Riding the popularity of Build Fighters, the Build Strike Gundam Full Package was quickly released as a BB Senshi kit as well.

The basic parts layout is similar to recent BB Senshi kits, but it's not the premium, hefty build you'd get from something like the Nu Gundam or Sazabi — it feels more like a middle ground between old and new in terms of quality. The most obvious examples are the head antenna being handled entirely with seals, the weapons having no color separation whatsoever — not even seals — and the Build Booster feeling a bit underwhelming overall.

So don't go in expecting the same high quality as the BB Senshi Sazabi or Nu Gundam — you'll want to approach this one thinking of it as just a step up from the older kits. It seems like even Bandai's development team only puts real effort into the popular, iconic suits in the SD lineup — ones that appeal to both old fans and newcomers alike — and the Build Strike Gundam, being the youngest (?) Gundam of the bunch, feels like it was just rushed out with a bare-minimum release.

The Build Booster's wings and main body are boldly reproduced as single solid parts, and together with the nose and beam cannon sections, you get three parts total that can be combined into various configurations. That said, when you set up the beam cannon parts in backpack mode, the connection is pretty loose and they tend to pop off, and the shoulder polycaps also come out easily — so posing is quite a pain. -_-;

One interesting feature is that in addition to the removable helmet, the armor on the body and arms can also be detached. This is designed so you can swap armor with the Musha Gundam series kits and mix things up. Looking at this kind of feature, you almost have to wonder whether this should be considered a Musha Gundam kit rather than a proper mainline Gundam SD.

Anyway, between the so-so color reproduction, the somewhat flimsy shoulder joints, and the Build Booster situation, this ends up being a pretty average SD kit. It feels like a release that's really just meant to exist for light fans — the value is in the fact that it came out at all. :-)
