The Phenex, Unit 03, has joined the ever-expanding SD Unicorn variation lineup. They sure do love milking this one ^^;; That said, the gold colorway — as opposed to white or dark blue — does give it a pretty different feel.

First off, since the Phenex is canonically equipped with two Armed Armor DEs on its back, the kit is basically built on the SD Banshee Norn as its base. On top of that, Phenex-specific head antenna have been added, along with joint parts to secure the two Armed Armor DEs.

The gold molded color came out in that typical muddy yellow-gold plastic, though it has a sort of gloss injection feel to it, so the straight build actually looks pretty decent. The color separation is also fairly good for an SD-scale kit. That said, just like the previous SD Unicorn and Banshee, the ball joints at the shoulders and ankles pop out way too easily, making it a bit of a pain to hold poses.

Anyway, the real significance of this kit is simply that the Phenex has gotten the SD treatment — and we can probably look forward to a gold-plated limited edition version down the line too. :-)
