SD BB Senshi

Gundam Barbatos DX

Kit Review

Straight build

After about a year, a new BB Senshi SD kit has arrived — it's the Gundam Barbatos DX from the latest anime, Iron-Blooded Orphans. Like many BB Senshi kits before it, this one comes fully loaded. It lets you recreate all seven configurations of Barbatos, from Form 1 through Form 6, plus the Form 5 Ground Combat configuration. Worth noting that Form 4 is identical to the Gundam Barbatos released as an EX-Standard kit — this one is essentially a deluxe expanded version of that.

For Forms 1 through 6, various combinations of shoulder and forearm armor, chest armor, side skirts, and foot parts are swapped in and out. Thanks to the simple, clean parts that SD kits are known for, pulling off each form isn't difficult at all. As a bonus, a single-piece Booster Kutan is also included. The weapons are fully covered too — gliding cannon, mace, wrench mace, you name it, it's all here.

The large hollow-out areas on the back of the legs are a bit of an eyesore, but overall the proportions, parts layout, joint strength, and general build quality are top-tier even among BB Senshi kits. The posability is more dynamic than you'd expect for an SD kit, and the wrench mace even has a detachable tip that can be spread open. There's also an original gimmick where you attach the leftover parts onto the Booster Kutan to form a complex aircraft shape.

The build quality is excellent for a BB Senshi SD kit, and the biggest selling point is definitely being able to recreate all seven forms from Form 1 through Form 6. On top of that, every weapon is included — so if you're a fan of Gundam Barbatos, this is a lavishly packed SD kit that's well worth a strong recommendation. :-)
