SD Cross Silhouette

Gundam Ground Type

Kit Review

Straight build

The Gundam Ground Type arrives as the 11th kit in the SD Cross Silhouette lineup. The gimmick of swapping from the SD Frame to the separately sold CS Frame works the same way as before — most of the features are identical, just with a new design — but the notable addition here is the new hip joint gimmick for the CS Frame.

The new CS Frame hip joint gimmick includes a movable hip section, which lets you pull off the Ground Type's signature kneeling firing pose quite convincingly. It's not possible with the SD Frame since the knees don't bend, so you'll definitely need the separately sold CS Frame for that. You can also reposition the shield's internal mounting parts to stand it upright for the pose — it feels like a little more thought went into this one compared to other SDCS kits.

The Gundam Ground Type's signature container storage gimmick is also recreated here, though unlike the original you can't disassemble and neatly arrange everything inside — it's more like just tossing things in loosely. That said, the overall build quality is clean and it's got that adorable, bright-eyed SD charm, so if you're a fan of SD kits, this one should be a fun time. :-)
