The Aile Strike Gundam has arrived as the second entry in the new SD EX-Standard series. The basic concept is the same as the previous First Gundam — slimmer proportions, simple parts layout, and all the hollow-backs and heavy seal work that comes with it.

That said, unlike the BB Senshi First Gundam which had solid color separation, the old BB Senshi Strike Gundam was a bit lacking in that department — so the new SD EX-Standard Strike ends up looking relatively better by comparison. The color separation itself hasn't improved dramatically, but at least it comes with a larger quantity of seals, so the finished look after the straight build and seal application does feel like an upgrade.

And more than anything, the proportions and range of articulation have genuinely improved, so just like the previous First Gundam, you can pull off some pretty dynamic poses for an SD kit. The Aile pack is included right out of the box too, so combine it with a separate stand and you can get some really cool poses going.

Anyway, aside from the increased hollow-backs, this is clearly an upgrade over the old BB Senshi Strike Gundam — and compared to the EX-Standard First Gundam which seems to be dividing opinions, this feels like a more worthwhile new SD kit. :-)
