SD EX-Standard

Strike Freedom Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build

The Strike Freedom Gundam from Gundam SEED has been released as the 6th entry in the EX-Standard line. Just like the previous releases, it features a smaller head and torso compared to the traditional BB Senshi, with slimmer proportions that bring it close to Kotobukiya's D-Style look.

True to the series concept, the parts count is kept to a minimum while still pulling off a solid recreation of the overall look. You still need a fair number of stickers, but the straight build feels more polished than a standard BB Senshi. In particular, compared to the BB Senshi version which had no stickers at all on the wings, this one actually has blue stickers to apply on the front side — even if it's only the front and not both sides — so it ends up looking a lot more convincing.

As for articulation, the hip joints are still pretty limited thanks to the skirt armor, so it's still a bit lacking in that department. That said, the slimmer proportions that come with the series mean even a simple pose can look pretty dynamic, which helps compensate for it to some extent — same as the previous releases.^^;

All in all, this is an EX-Standard kit that stays true to its concept of building a modern-style SD kit with a simple assembly process. If you're a fan of the Strike Freedom, it's a solid kit that offers a fresh take compared to the classic BB Senshi. :-)
