SD EX-Standard

Gundam Barbatos

Kit Review

Straight build

EX Standard No. 10 is Gundam Barbatos, and it's the same kit as the 4th Form from the BB Senshi Gundam Barbatos DX. To be more precise, the EX Standard Barbatos came out first, and then a few months later the BB Senshi Gundam Barbatos DX kit followed as an expanded version.

Previous EX Standard releases had completely different structures from their BB Senshi counterparts even when they were the same mobile suit, so this marks the first time the two lines have shared the same body. As a result, this kit is identical to the BB Senshi Gundam Barbatos 4th Form in appearance, contents, and every other aspect. Following the same concept as previous EX Standard kits, you can build a modern-proportioned SD Gundam with simple assembly and a bunch of seals.

That said, it carries over the same issues from previous EX Standard kits — the legs have some pretty bad hollows on the back, and the shoulder joints tend to pop out easily. Assembly wraps up in about 10 minutes, but applying all the seals takes around 40 minutes, just like before.

Bottom line: if you just want the basic Gundam Barbatos body (4th Form), go with the EX Standard version, but if you want to swap between all the different forms, the BB Senshi DX version is the way to go. :-)
