SD EX-Standard

Wing Gundam Zero

Kit Review

Straight build

Wing Gundam Zero has been released as the first kit of 2021 (and also the last, it seems) in the SD EX-Standard series, which is lucky to put out even one kit a year. In terms of overall package, it stays true to the existing SD EX-Standard concept — slender proportions for an SD, decent articulation, and yes, the sink marks and mountains of seals are still very much here.

SD Wing Gundam Zero hadn't appeared as a BB Senshi kit since the G-Generation release back in 2000, so it's nice to finally see it return after 21 years in the modern EX-Standard style. The sealing work takes longer than the actual assembly, which is a bit of a chore, but the overall sculpt has a refined, polished feel that makes the finished kit pretty satisfying.

Weapons include the Twin Buster Rifle, a shield, and a beam saber. The Twin Buster Rifle can't be separated, so you're stuck using it only in its combined form. There's also an original gimmick where you're encouraged to combine the wings and weapons and attach them to kits like the HGUC First Gundam Revive — though the weapons are heavy enough that the wrist joints on HG-class kits struggle a bit to hold them up.

Either way, it's great to see Wing Gundam Zero get a fresh SD treatment with such a sleek look. As long as you don't mind slapping on a ton of seals, this seems like a fun, easy kit to enjoy. :-)
