The old-school SD kits represented by GG0 (G Generation Zero) and GGF (G Generation F) span numbers 1 through 63, and were reprinted with an overall renewal in 1999. But "renewal" is a bit of a stretch — they just redid the boxes and manuals. The actual kits themselves are the same ones that came out over the previous decade. They basically just swapped the packaging to tie in with the game titles. Real old-school stuff ^^
After that, the original SD Gundams were reborn under the BB Senshi series name, and there's a lot of overlap with the GG series lineup. This Nu Gundam (or "Nu Gundam" — no arguing over the name!) that I'm introducing as the very first SD kit also got a much more refined BB Senshi release down the line.
This kit, which first came out in 1988, is very much a product of its time. Chunky details and proportions, not-so-great color separation, and most notably, a spring-loaded BB pellet firing gimmick (;;)... On top of that, polycaps weren't really in widespread use yet, so the joints are just made from some vague plastic material. Still, it's got that unmistakable SD cuteness going for it.
Playing around with the BB pellet launcher again after so long was quite a nostalgic experience. You have to load it just right or it won't fire, but if you do it properly it can easily shoot 30cm. ^^;
Since a massively upgraded BB Senshi version already exists, there's not a whole lot of reason to go for this one... but it's got that old-school charm and nostalgia factor going for it. I think the real appeal of these vintage SD kits is that beyond the major MS like this one, there are quite a few suits that never got a proper regular kit release but showed up here :-)
