SD G Generation

Sazabi

Kit Review

Straight build

Following the Nu Gundam, the second entry in the GG-0 series is its rival, the Sazabi.
It's based on BB Senshi No. 8 Sazabi with additional weapons, and the molded color has been made slightly darker. Since the MS itself is pretty much a single color to begin with, the lack of much color separation doesn't really feel out of place at all.

Compared to the Nu Gundam which just looks like it has a big head, the SD Sazabi has a much more convincing proportion. Rather than just having a huge head, the face is actually small and slender, making it one of the better-looking SDs out there. Even as an older kit, this guy's got quite a presence.

The weapons loadout is especially impressive — three beam weapons, a shield, a rifle, and 4 types of rifle projectiles.. but as you can see in the photos, the hilarious part is what actually gets launched from the rifle. An escape pod, a rocket punch fist, a tomahawk, a fin funnel.. none of them have any business coming out of a rifle lore-wise.. but hey, it's SD, so it's a fun little gimmick you can let slide. ^^;

And unlike the Nu Gundam whose launcher felt a bit underwhelming, the Sazabi's rifle fires its projectiles with quite a satisfying kick~ The only catch is that they can occasionally get stuck in the barrel, so you may want to widen the rifle opening a bit with a knife.

Anyway, with just a little bit of detail painting on the pipes and verniers, this one can really shine — it's one of the better older SD kits out there. ^^
