SD G Generation

Gatesbound Dog

Kit Review

Straight build

The Bound Dog — a kit you don't often see in injection plastic — has gotten the SD treatment. The Bound Dog comes in several different color schemes, and this kit uses the gray-toned Gatz Kaffa color scheme, which is why it was released under the name "Gatesbound Dog." Essentially, it's the BB Senshi No. 18 Bound Dog in Rosamia's colors with the MA Form 2 parts added in — so depending on how you paint it, you could also recreate Rosamia's purple color scheme or Jerid's darker tone.

First off, the SD Bound Dog just looks really great. It's got that cute SD charm while still keeping the Bound Dog's unique style intact! Aside from the legs being incredibly short, the upper body proportions somehow feel surprisingly close to the original mobile suit. Both the large and small skirt forms are included, giving you 2 MS configurations, and naturally 2 MA configurations to go along with them. Of course, it's all done via parts-swapping~

On top of that, adding the claw attachment that was included when it was reissued in '99 gives you a third MA form, bringing the total to 5 different configurations. I wouldn't say the variety is all that exciting, but hey, it's there ^^;

That said, the real appeal of the Bound Dog is definitely the MS form itself — that quirky rat-like design is unique enough to make it worth recommending on its own. The skirt is a single solid piece too, so no seam lines to worry about, which is nice. The left hand parts do tend to pop off a bit easily, but overall the parts layout is solid. If you've ever had any interest in the Bound Dog, this is worth picking up just for the price alone — you won't regret it. It's an older kit, but it doesn't really feel like one. A good kit. ^^
