SD G Generation

Gundam G-Armor

Kit Review

Straight build

The last kit in the G-Generation SD line — repackaged all at once in '99 — is the G-Armor. Unlike the other old-school SDs, it's priced ¥100 higher, and true to the nature of the mech, the contents are that much more generous. It's essentially BB Senshi No. 28 G-Armor with the molded colors swapped out and the Core Fighter replaced with a smaller version.

First off, the RX-78 used as the base body has better color separation than the Perfect Gundam body released previously. Some parts are carried over directly from the Perfect Gundam body, but it was largely rebuilt from scratch to accommodate the waist split feature. As a result, it looks a whole lot better :-) One fun thing to note is just how different the shield sizes are between the two kits. (see photos)

The G-Fighter for the G-Armor has decent color separation and, more importantly, a real sense of bulk to it — it feels surprisingly chunky for an SD. And all the possible combination forms are supported — G-Armor, G-Sky, G-Bull, MA mode, you name it — and they all look the part. The Core Fighter added for the '99 reissue can technically transform into a storage configuration, but since it's way bigger than the torso, there's absolutely no way it actually fits inside. ^^;;

All in all, for an old-school SD that first came out back in '89, the quality is pretty solid. It's got that charming stubby SD appeal, decent color separation, and full transformation support — making it one of the more recommendable little gems from the old-school lineup. :-)
