SD G Generation

V2 Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build

Following the G Generation V Gundam, the V2 Gundam has now been released as well. Just like the SD V Gundam, it's a full package with all the related weapons included — but there are far more accessories this time around, so the part count has jumped up considerably. As a result, the box is much larger than a typical SD kit, and the price is a hefty ¥800. This is essentially a repackage of BB Senshi No. 129 V2 Assault Buster Gundam from 1994, with a blue Assault-exclusive rifle added as a G Generation special item.

Just like the original kit, this one includes parts for all of V2 Gundam's variations — V2 Buster, V2 Assault, and V2 Assault Buster — along with all the parts needed to build the Core Fighter, Top Fighter, and Bottom Fighter. The end result is a kit where the accessories actually outshine the main body, and you can have a lot of fun mixing and matching all the different configurations. ^^;

Compared to V Gundam, the contents are more generous, the seals blend in a bit better, and the overall style and build quality feel a notch higher with the V2. The V2 Assault Buster in particular, loaded up with all its gear, has a pretty intense presence even in SD form.

All in all, as a full-package SD Gundam kit, it does have a somewhat old-school feel to the plastic and detail work, but it's still a deluxe SD kit that's plenty of fun to enjoy as part of the small and cute SD Gundam lineup. :-)
