SD G Generation

Dragon Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build

The second Mobile Fighter G Gundam SD following SD Shining Gundam is Dragon Gundam. Just like the previous releases, it's a repackage of BB Senshi No. 134 Dragon Gundam from 1994, with the three clear blue dragon head parts removed and dragon neck extension parts added instead.

First off, the colors are bold and striking compared to other SDs, so it really stands out wherever you put it. Dragon Gundam's signature Dragon Claw is nicely reproduced here too. There's a spring gimmick inside the Dragon Claw that can launch the flame piece quite a distance, and you can either have it held in the hands or swap out the arms for the dragon neck extension parts — so while there aren't any separate weapons, the kit stays faithful to recreating the Dragon Claw in various ways.

For anyone who hasn't seen Mobile Fighter G Gundam, this might look like a Musha Gundam at first glance — it's that unfamiliar. But personally, this is one of the rare mobile suits where I actually find the SD version more charming than a regular-scale kit. :-)
