SD G Generation

G Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build

Following Shining, Dragon, and Maxter, God Gundam has now joined the SD G Generation Zero lineup. The overall kit composition and quality are very similar to Shining Gundam. Like its predecessors, this is a repackage of BB Senshi No. 138 G Gundam from 1994, with the Crystal Phoenix Lander dropped and the Sekiha Tenkyoken arm added in its place.

Just as the Shining Gundam included all the gimmicks for the Super Mode transformation, the SD God Gundam supports recreation of the Sekiha Tenkyoken action, including the chest Energy Multiplier opening. They're all swap-out rather than movable parts, but it's still great that even a kit this small lets you recreate the most iconic moments. And thanks to that, you can now pull off a combined Shining Finger + Sekiha Tenkyoken action pose together with the previous Shining Gundam kit. :-)

That said, the heavy use of seals does make it feel a bit more mismatched than Shining Gundam, and the overall proportions come across as a little top-heavy... so if I had to pick, Shining Gundam edges it out slightly. Still, as the main mech of G Gundam, it's a fun kit to build alongside Shining Gundam. :-)
