SD G Generation

Gundam Aquarius

Kit Review

Straight build

The Gundam Aquarius, an original unit from the G-Generation F game, has now gotten the SD treatment. Since it's not a unit that appeared in any anime, it feels both refreshingly new and completely obscure at the same time, depending on how you look at it.

First off, by the nature of its design, this is one of the bulkier kits even among SDs — the big spiky shoulder armor (..) is nicely reproduced. That said, the hollow backs of the shoulders and arms are left completely exposed, which gives it a bit of an old-school vibe. Also, since the body is covered in blue molded plastic, you'll need to apply a pretty hefty amount of seals to match the intended color scheme. Honestly, sticking on the seals takes way longer than actually building the kit. ^^; As for weapons, two heat rods are included that can be slipped onto the forearms, letting you pull off some decent action poses.

Since it's a game-original unit, it's hard to see the appeal unless you're actually a fan of the game — but on the flip side, the fact that it's a kit you can't get in any other scale might actually work in its favor. It also looks like it'd turn out really sharp with a good paint job, though the painting difficulty would be pretty high. Either way, it's a kit worth appreciating for adding some variety to the SD lineup. :-)
