SD G Generation

Master Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build

Following the God Gundam and Shining Gundam that came out much earlier in the lineup, this one was released as part of the old-style G Generation Zero SD series. Even though it's an old-style kit, it feels like it came out later in the run — the overall kit composition and quality are noticeably better than the God or Shining.

For starters, it's pretty rare for an old-style SD to have elbow articulation, which is a nice touch, and the wings move up, down, left, and right, so you can pull off some decent action poses. Sure, it's nowhere near enough to recreate Master Gundam's signature variety of hand gestures and dynamic poses, but for an SD kit, this is relatively good. (Though it would've been nice if the hand parts were swappable..)

In terms of color separation, it looks pretty bare without the seals, but once you put them on, the default color scheme comes through well enough. The design itself is a combination of deep blue and red, which actually turns out to be a pretty workable color combo for an SD kit. ^^

Master Gundam never got a new-style BB Senshi release, probably because the old-style kit's quality was considered good enough as-is. Either way, if you're a G Gundam fan, this is the one and only SD Master Gundam you've got to pick up — and since the quality holds up pretty well relatively speaking, it's definitely up there among the top recommended SD kits. :-)
