Force Impulse Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build + Partial paint + Panel lining + Decals

Following the 1/144 HG, the 1/100 Force Impulse Gundam has now been released.
The biggest difference from the HG is definitely the much improved color separation.
The complex color combinations on the shoulders, torso, and various other areas are almost perfectly separated on the surface. That said, the Core Splendor's color separation is still a bit iffy, so touch-up painting is a must if you want it to look right, and the verniers on the Force Silhouette pack are also a little lacking in color separation. Everything else has quite nice molded colors, so it looks good enough even as a straight straight build. (Though the yellow V on the chest and the red parts on the Force Silhouette pack wings are still handled with stickers..)

Compared to the 1/144, the 1/100 has better proportions — a bit more slender. That's probably just because it's bigger, but it's a huge step up from the rough early design. Articulation is about the same as the existing 1/100 SEED series — not exceptional, but not bad either, just average. Joint strength seems a bit more solid than before, so it can stand up straight without any trouble even with the heavy Force Silhouette pack on its back.

Unlike the 1/144 HG, the Core Block can also transform into Core Splendor form, so the three-way separation transformation is fully reproduced as in the original. Everything else is fine, but when the upper body is laid forward(?) in Chest Flyer form, the locking is a bit iffy. The arms tend to flop around and the already somewhat awkward look keeps falling apart. The Leg Flyer, on the other hand, locks together nicely.

Setting aside the Core Splendor, overall this is a well-executed kit with solid molded colors, color separation, joint strength, and proportions. It feels much better than the HG 1/144. In terms of overall quality, it feels like a slight step up from the previous 1/100 SEED series — the clean, attractive molded colors in particular really stand out.

As long as you don't have any issues with the kit's design or transformation gimmick, this is a kit with excellent bang for your buck in terms of quality^^
